WHAT IS BROMELAIN AND WHAT DOES GDU MEAN?
Bromelain GDU stands for gelatin digestion units. GDU does not mean there is gelatin in this product—this is a unit of measure for dissolvability once it comes in contact with amino acids.
Bromelain, derived from the pineapple plant, is one of a group of proteolytic enzymes (enzymes capable of digesting protein).
One GDU is the amount of enzyme that will liberate 1 mg of amino nitrogen from a standard gelatin solution at pH 4.5-5.5 after 20 minutes of digestion at 45˚C.
